Please note that the proposed wānaka pounamu set down for the weekend of 13–14 November 2010 has now been postponed until early 2011. Whānau will be notified of the new date for this wānaka once it has been arranged.

The wānaka has been replaced by a long-overdue hui on our collective pounamu aspirations. The discussion at this hui will form the basis of a strategic pounamu plan to guide Te Rūnanga o Makaawhio and the Kōhatu Makaawhio Ltd company in the future. This facilitated hui will look at all aspects of Makaawhio pounamu including the cultural, educational, commercial and resource management aspects of this taoka. This hui gives us a chance to dream about our collective future for our people and pounamu and put some stepping stones in place to achieve those dreams.

The hui will be held on 13–14 November 2010 at Te Tauraka Waka a Māui Marae, Bruce Bay. The hui is for Te Rūnanga o Makaawhio members only.

If you are interested in attending, please register your interest by phoning 0800 955 007 or contacting the office via email at makawhio1@xtra.co.nz. Further information will be provided to those who indicate an interest in attending the hui.
