Pōtitanga Rūnanganui / Executive Committee Elections
At this year's Hui-ā-tau, all Rūnanganui (Executive) positions excluding the two (2) Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu (TRoNT) representative positions are open for election.
The TRoNT positions have been elected under a separate electoral process carried out earlier this year.
Nominations were therefore called for the following positions open for election at this year's Hui-ā-tau (AGM):
- Upokorūnanga
- Upoko-tuarua / Deputy Upoko
- Kaiwhakahaere / Chairperson
- Kaiwhakahaere tuarua / Deputy chairperson
- Kaipūtea / Treasurer
- Kaituhituhi / Secretary
- Ngā mema rūnanga / Executive ordinary members (4)
Please note: Should the alterations to the rules in relation to the removal of the Upoko and Deputy Upoko roles be approved at the Special Meeting, the elections for those roles will not take place. Therefore, please be aware that the election for the Upoko and Deputy Upoko is conditional on the role not being removed from the rūnanga rules.
Members had until 4.00 pm on Tuesday 21 September 2010 to complete a "Rūnanganui (Executive) Nomination Form" to be eligible for the position for which they were nominated.
To be deemed valid, nominations could only be made and seconded by registered members of Te Rūnanga o Makaawhio Inc., and required the nominee (who must be a registered member) to sign the form agreeing to stand for the nominated position. Additionally, the nominee must attend the Rūnanga Hui-ā-tau (AGM).
Profiles of the candidates are available here.
Voting process: As has been the practice since 2003, ballot papers will be printed based on valid nomination forms received within deadline. The ballot papers will be taken to the Hui-ā-tau (AGM), where they will be distributed to registered members over the age of 18 years during the "Election of officers" portion of the meeting. Scrutineers will be appointed on the day to count the votes.
Notice of Special Meeting
Members have been duly notified that the Rūnanganui (Executive) received a "Notice of motion for alteration, amendment or rescission to our rules" on 23 July 2010.
A Special Meeting will therefore be held on Saturday 25 September 2010, commencing at 9.30 am, at our marae, Te Tauraka Waka a Māui, to vote on proposed alterations to the rules.
Any alterations approved by registered members (over the age of 18 years) present at Special meeting will take effect immediately.
This meeting will precede our Hui-ā-tau (Annual General Meeting).
Copies of the re-drafted Rūnanga Constitution have been posted to rūnanga members. The re-draft has been completed taking into account feedback received from members over the last four years and through two main consultation phases, both with extended consultation timeframes.
